it’s been a while since I last blooooooged. how are you? I’m alright. I’ve been really busy. I’ve also been very….not-busy. is that a word? spending my days either working, making cookies and cornbread, flying around, trying to figure out the hard parts in why georgia and daughters, working on taxes, starting my art collection, buying shoes and sweaters, looking for the next step, and trying to figure things out. on the musical front, lately I’ve been obsessed with rufus wainwright’s disc “want” and thanks to an old friend for leading me to “sweet disposition” by the temper trap. rufus’ stuff is really personal. “want” is great as a whole. unreal. music is so great. I’ve always loved music but I love it on a different level now. on another note, I’m a lucky man and I need to keep that in mind more often. if you’re my friend, thanks.

For memory’s sake….

So last week was Seahawks/Rams in Seattle with McD and Beck and Rod. 7 AM flight out of SAN to SMF, 2 hour layover, SMF to PDX, 4 hour layover to get an amtrak. Amtrak late, got another one. 4 hours later in Seattle late at night. 13 hours to get from so-cal to Seattle. Wow. Is the math right? Probably not. Weather was perfect in Seattle. It was great to see Rod. Game was really terrible. Got out, got pictures moved, had lunch with Rod the next day and flew home.

This weekend was in Utah and San Diego. BYU/Florida St. in Provo and Chargers in San Diego. Up at 4 AM. 6:15 AM flight from SAN to SLC. Nice breakfast with McD and Mr. Biever. Drove down to Provo, kinda creepy but everyone was really nice. Shot the game…wow, bad game. but saw detrick. glad his paper is doing well. Trucked it out, transmitted, dinnered, packed, slept for a few hours, up at 4:45 AM dropped the Biev off at the airport, caught my flight, late, made it to SD, got the car, picked up McD, met Mitzi, got the credentials and parking, went to Quallcomm, sweated, made Sean mad, saw lots of friends, sweated some more, finally got out and made it home. Sleepy.

day of football

I spent Saturday at two football games. Two football games that shared many similarities as well as many differences. One had about 90,000 people in attendance, the other had about 300. Both were blow-outs. One had more than 75 photographers on the sidelines, the other had four. One had players decked out in brand new Nikes and who are worshipped by alumni and donors, the other had a team short of enough players because they could only afford one bus to get them to the game. One was the USC vs San Jose St. game, the other was the Fullerton College vs. Compton College game.

It was a nice day. I did the USC game S.I. with Johnny Mac and it was great to see Peter and Super Shawn Cullen, Birmingham, SooHoo, Wally, Goulding, Carlson, Kevork, Raffi, Dustin, and the rest of the gang. The game was a blowout. After that I shot the Fullerton College game with Matty B. It was a  6 PM kickoff so I went just to shoot the pretty light. I haven’t shot football for myself since fall of 2007 so it was fun.

Last night I finally got around to watching Into The Wild on Blu-ray. I really loved it. The simple but beautiful cinematography, the characters which were very honest, and the idea of a young man going away to find nature and truth. When I went to bed last night I couldn’t stop thinking about Christopher McCandless. It was weird. I felt so sad for him. Even though he was looking for truth he was also running from lies. His final days were in agony and he died all alone. My heart really went out to him. Sean Penn made a beautiful film and Emile Hirsch was amazing playing a young man at the turning point from boy to man. I want to read the book now.

edit 9/20/09: ok, it need’s to be edited down.

embracing it

I realized lately that I’m a dreamer. I’m pretty fanciful and I keep my head in the clouds about a lot of stuff. It’s my creative side I guess. This is a stark contrast to my other side which is very focused and stuck “in the real world”.

I’m going to embrace this creative, dreamer side.

Now some news:

1. Finally got the AC fixed in the wagon. Hooray! Tomorrow the windows will be tinted.
